My dear mama

France, 17 November 1824

My Dear Mama,

I received with pleasure the letter that you did me the honour of writing and in which you inform me that you are in good health. Your silence began to cause me worry. I feared that you were ill; it is very unlike you to let pass such a long time without writing me. I am very confident that your health will improve.

I beg you to give me another six more months. I will do my best so as not to waste my time and not to waste all the contentment that you have given me, which is worthy of such sacrifice. I beg you, Dear Mama. I offer you, my parent, my most humble respects.
Your respectful and obedient daughter
