The National Socialist Flag

Germany, 1940s

Upon founding the party on February 20 1920 and proclaiming the twenty-five points, Adolf Hitler saw what a surge in interest it all had and searched for an appropriate flag as a symbol. He elected to preserve the old colo rs which he held so dearly, many drew the swastika in the old flag. Finally a decision was made. A flag of red cloth in the centre of which lay a white circle and swastika. In the summer of 1920, the flag appeared to the public for the first time. On 15th September 1935 the Führer proclaimed in the Nuremberg Flag Laws the Reich’s flag to be the swastika flag. He said, “Socialist thought is presented in the red, in the white nationalist sentiment and the basis of the Aryan movement in the swastika.”
